In addition to teaching the fundamentals of marksmanship, this three-day (24-hr) course also offers an introduction to several aspects of long-range shooting such as wind estimation, ballistics and data collection. The course culminates with an opportunity to shoot from the 1,000-yard line — a challenge for even the most experienced marksmen.
Tuition includes:
•- 100 rounds of ammunition •- Range fees •- Breakfast and lunch each day
Course topics include:
•- Barrett rifles familiarization •- Cleaning and maintenance •- Rifle setup •- Marksmanship fundamentals •- Intro to data collection •- Basic external ballistics •- Intro to wind •- Live fire on 1,000-yd known-distance range
Breakfast is served at 7:30 a.m. Class begins at 9:00 a.m. and generally lasts until 4:30 or 5:30 p.m. (If you plan to travel home by air on the last day, the earliest flight you should take is 8:00 p.m.)
Rental rifles are available for use during the course for an additional $200. (You can add one to your cart while in the store.)
Students are responsible for bringing:
•- An open mind •- Barrett .50 cal rifle zeroed at 300 yards (100 yards if using BORS®) •- .50 cal rated scope (Leupold® 4.5-14x50mm w/ mil-dot recommended) •- Shooting mat patches •- Shooting mat •- Notebook and pencil •- Calculator •- Graph paper •- Cleaning equipment (solid rod, solvent, patches, bore snake) •- Hearing and eye protection •- Drinking water •- Weather-appropriate clothing including rain gear (We shoot rain, shine, cold or hot.) •- Lip balm
Optional gear:
•- Spotting scope (25x minimum) •- Binoculars •- Insect repellent •- Hat and sunblock •- Knee and elbow pads •- Sand bag •- Sand sock
