In 2007 Congressional action increased the total operational strength of the United States Marine Corp from 175,000 Marines to 202,000 Marines.  The addition of 27,000 new Marines has increased the need for more equipment including the M107. The Barrett M107 is the USMC .50 BMG long range rifle and Barrett has recently shipped additional units in the fall of 2008  to the Marines and will deliver more in early 2009.  The Marines were an early user with Barrett and they deployed the M82A3 series rifle for many years. The current configuration of the M107 is equipped with the Schmidt and Bender telescopic sight built to their specifications.
