What to Look for in a Scope
When purchasing a scope for your new AR-15 rifle there are a lot of things to consider before purchasing.
The biggest thing to look at is what will the rifle be used for. Will you be doing long range shooting primarily or will the scope be used for close range CQB use.
If using the rifle for long range shooting only then a magnified scope will be best. You can have a rifle capable of shooting out to long distance but if you cannot see what you are shooting at it is going to be very difficult to hit it.
If your rifle is going to be used for CQB training and use, then a red dot or prism scope would be in your best interest. Red dots are mostly do not have any magnification but provide a clear dot for aiming at close ranges. You can always add a flip to the side magnifier to increase the distance you are able to use your red dot out too.
Prism scopes can have no magnification but there are several that have different set magnification power for using at longer distances. Prism scopes can be beneficial to anyone who as an astigmatism, if using a red dot with an astigmatism the dot will be blurry causing the red dot to not be as accurate for that user. Prism scopes eliminate the blurriness of the dot with an astigmatism.
As you can see there are a lot of things to consider before purchasing a scope. Following we will discuss the 10 best AR-15 scopes we have found to date.
